Образовано в 1939 году как Мстинский ИТЛ при Управлении строительства ГЭС на реке Мста. В феврале 1942 года на территории ИТЛ создан сборно-пересыльный пункт для бывших военнослужащих Красной Армии, попавших в плен или вышедших из окружения. В том же году пункт преобразован в лагерь-распределитель НКВД для военнопленных и становится одним из лаготделений лагеря № 270, позднее лагерь для военных преступников. В 1951 году преобразован в ИТК-8. С 1953 года — ИТК-3. С 1964 года — колония строгого режима для больных туберкулёзом, с 1965 года — межобластная колония для больных туберкулёзом. С 2005 года — ЛИУ-3 .
