Penal colony in Makiivka (Makeyevka), Russian-occupied Donetsk region. Named in OHCHR HRMMU reports as housing Ukrainian prisoners of war. The facility reportedly held large numbers of soldiers captured in Mariupol. Reports document poor conditions, overcrowding and allegations of torture. Site of a widely reported strike in January 2023 that Russian authorities acknowledged caused significant casualties among Ukrainian POWs.
